AFGS Membership Renewal Notice

We are now mailing out renewal notices to AFGS members who's membership will expire this year (2012).
Inclosed in the mailing is a letter from our new president of the American-French Genealogical Society, Normand T. Deragon.

Also if you are renewing and would like to recieve the newsletter only by email check the box.

AFGS Membership Types
Individual, Family, Institutional and Corporate Membership are for one year, Oct 1st to September 30th.
A person is entitled to all the rights of  membership upon payment of applicable dues.


All members of the same household are entitled to equal membership when Family Membership dues are paid. Household members are defined as Head of the Household, spouse, domestic partners, children, parents, and parents-in-law who reside in the same living quarters. One copy of each mailing will be sent to the Family Membership.


An individual member will be given Life Membership  status upon payment of the determined Life Membership fee. Upon the death of a Life Member the Membership will cease.


        Special Membership
Open to schools, libraries, museums, historical and genealogical societies, research groups, etc. Institutional Members are not eligible to hold a seat on the board of Directors. Only one copy of each mailing will be sent to Institutional Members. One membership card will be issued to be used by a maximum of two people at a time. Institutional Membership will be limited to the use of the Research Library only. The membership card must be presented at the time of visit.

Members of the American-French Genealogical Society receive many benefits;
  • Access to the Research Library, which is open every Monday, 11 am - 4 pm, every Tuesday, 1 pm to 9 pm, and most Saturdays (August. - July), 10 am to 4 pm.
  • Members have access to AFGS Lending Library: By mail members may borrow microfiche to aid them in their research. Over 6300 microfiche currently available.
  • The right to attend the annual business meeting and vote in the election of officers, held the last Tuesday of October.
  • Members receive Je Me Souviens, a semi-annual, journal filled with resources for genealogists, members' research stories, new member listings, and facts and tips.
  • A newsletter, AFGnewS, keeps members informed of Society activities.
  • New members receive individual assistance and training from experienced and highly competent members.
  • Members unable to conduct their own research can utilize the resources of the library through the Research Committee, a staff of experienced researchers available at low member rates.
  • The AFGS conducts an Open House periodically to introduce the public to our extensive library and our greatest asset, our members.
  • We set up exhibits at many local events, such as the Woonsocket Autumn Fest, the La Salette French-Canadian Pride Day, and the Heritage Farmers Market.
  • Many AFGS members are involved in projects that directly help the genealogist, such as the Rhode Island Cemetery Transcription Project.
