AFGS is presenting abbreviated information on creating GEDCOM files as a guide only.
Make sure you back up your data before creating any files.

IMPORTANT: Please submit any questions to Bill  before submitting the file to AFGS.  AFGS will process your GEDCOM file when received and incorporate it with the other GEDCOM files. We will not be able to make corrections after you submit the file.

(NOTE: Family Origins will no longer be supported after as of June 30, 2003)
NOTE: These instruction are only for creating a 5 generation pedigree chart for AFGS. See your help file for the complete instruction on creating GED files. Important Always backup your database before creating files.
From Family Origins version 10 Tree View
Select Lists - Individual List
From  the Family Origins Explorer - Select Person menu
Select the person you want to be the number one person on your 5 generation chart.
Select OK
From Family Origins version 10 Tree View
Select File - GEDCOM - Export GEDCOM
From GEDCOM file to create? menu
In the section "Save in" make a note where you will be saving the file to. This way you can find the file later. 
In the section "File name" click on the area and type your AFGS member number. Do not add the .ged to the "File name" this program automatically adds the .ged after the file. The file name for your first file will be your AFGS member number preceded by the letter a. If you are submitting 2 charts the second file name will be your AFGS member number preceded by the letter b

Example for 2 files it would be: a3677.ged  and b3677.ged for individual membership or a3677f.ged and b3677f.ged for family membership.  
Each pedigree chart must be in a separate file
The "File name" section should now show your AFGS number with no extension. Example: 3677 for individual membership or 3677f  if you have a family membership. If your submitting  2 files the second file would be b3677 or b3677f
Select Save
From the GEDCOM Export menu
Select section People to export
Select - Select people to export
Select section Destination 
Select - General
Select section Export which items?
Clear all checks in this section
Select OK
From Select People to Export menu
Select person you want as number one on the chart
In section called Mark
Select Person Button - which will mark the number one person
Select Ancestors Button
From Mark Ancestors menu
Select section Include?
Select Direct ancestors only
Select number of generations
Select 5
Select OK
From Select People to Export menu
Select OK
You have just created your GED file in the directory you specified.
Suggest you import the ged file into a new Family file on your software, and review the information you will be submitting in the GEDCOM file.
In the email with your gedcom please identify the actual name of the person you want as the 1st person of your 5 generation chart.

Send an email towith your name etc and the GED file as an attachment.
