A Great Book set That Should Be In Your Library ~
King's Daughters and Founding Mothers: The Filles du Roi, 1663-1673 is a two volume biographical dictionary of the nearly 800 women and girls sent from France to populate Quebec between 1663 and 1673.
7/4/2013 Kings Daughters 350th Anniversary This year marks the 350th anniversary of the arrival of the “King's Daughters”, or “les filles du roi,” in Quebec. "Are You Descended From A Fille du Roi?"
2/24/13 AFGS LENDING LIBRARY DISCONTINUED The board of directors has decided to discontinue the Society's lending library due to lack of use. The lending library allowed members to borrow microfiche of various vital records. Microfiche is older technology and readers are become scarce. AFGS will stop selling the lending library catalog immediately and will discontinue the lending library permanently on June 30, 2013.

  Class: New workshop scheduled - Beginning Genealogy by Dennis Boudreau Sat. June 18, 2011 from 9 a.m. to about 12 noon. For beginners and for others to refresh their skills. Free to all - If a non-member decides to stay after the class for research they will need to pay the $5.00 visitor fee.

Added a section containing Genealogical Standards and Guide Lines from the "The National Genealogical Society"
 
Added a section on the Beginning Genealogy page with a collection of helpfull information from diffenerent parts of the AFGS website. The area is called "Help full Genealogy information for French Canadian research which includes Terms ~ Phrases ~ Translations ~ Abbreviations ~ Reference Répertoires etc. ~ Kinship & Descent ~ Quips (Genealogy Humor)"
 
 
Updated the our departed members section. The AFGS uses this section as a way to recall and honor our departed members.
 
We are pleased to announce the addition of an Acadian Heritage Section to the American-French Genealogical Society's website. Included are over 200 links for research as well as recipes, museums, music, plus event, festivals and much more. A section for Historical Videos, Stories, AFGS library holding for Acadia as well as section for Acadia Heritage Section related News and you can listen to the Acadian national anthem or get an Acadian Timeline.
 
Also announcing that the upcoming Acadian class Sat. April 16, 2011 will be given by Lucie LeBlanc Consentino a leading Acadian genealogist. Here is Lucie LeBlanc Consentino's Biography. Important NOTE: the time will be 10:00 am

Updated the AFGS Annual French Canadian Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony scheduled for Friday, October 15, 2010.
 
Added to the free searchable Headstone Database with an Index of over 50,000 headstones. This contains Headstone names from Cemeteries in Rhode Island, Massachusetts and Connecticut .
 
The latest edition of AFGnewS our on line newsletter is now available.
 
New 2010-2011 AFGS Calendar is now online. Also pictures of the latest class are on line.
 
 
 
First Free Class of the new season. - Beginning Genealogy Class Sat. August 28th. 2010
 
Added a new webpage for Beginning Genealogy which includes a blank 5 generation chart that can be printed and instruction on how to fill in the information.
 
The latest edition of AFGnewS our on line newsletter is now available.
 
Updated the webpage for the AFGS Reference and Guide Book for the Genealogist the page now lists the Table of Contents as well as the description.
 
New Service offered by the American-French Genealogical Society. We are pleased to announce that we are offering an AFGS Film Room Copy Service this is known as a Film Room Request.. This service will provide copies of actual obituaries, head stone pictures or copies of birth, marriage or death records contained on one of the microfilms. This service is available to AFGS members and non-Members alike.
 
Building Fund Update , the latest edition of AFGnewS our on line newsletter. Also we have added a way to pay for services on line with a credit card, this is called Payment to AFGS.

AFGS in the News 3/18/2010, article about AFGS called "Discover your ancestors at society's library" by a Valley Breeze News Paper of Rhode Island. Additional information added to our databases both Newspaper Obituary Index Database as well as Cemetery Headstone Database. AFGS French Canadian Soirée (Sugar Shack) will be held 4/17/2010. Building fund has been updated. Funeral Card Collections has been increased.

The Henry Dursin Collection of vintage pictures are now on line at the AFGS photo album and website. Over 145 pictures from 1901 to about 1930. This Historic Picture Album is from the collection of Philomène Dursin Offen.

A new free searchable Database has been added to the American-French Genealogical Society Database section of the website. It contains data from Blackstone Valley Cemeteries in Massachusetts over 44,500 listings from 56 Cemeteries.
 
 
A new free searchable Headstone Database has been added to the American-French Genealogical Society Database section of the website. It contains Headstone data from a number of Cemeteries in Rhode Island, Massachusetts and Connecticut .
 

A new Database section has just been added to the American-French Genealogical Society website. It contains Cemetery data for a number of local cemeteries in and around Woonsocket, RI

This is a free database with a persons name and could also contain, place of birth, Parents, Parents place of birth, spouse, military involvement (W.WI, W.W.II, Civil war, etc.) , Undertaker, Cemetery,Plot and lot numbers and also miscellaneous information. Over 107,000 Searchable listings, both by Surname and Maiden name.

 
Added a link on the AFGS home page for Legacy Family Tree Genealogy Software which offers a free download of their Standard Edition Legacy Family Tree Genealogy Software program.

Added a new section to the links page with Maps. One show the French Canadian population according to the 1990 US census. Another is about Canada and one is for France. Added the latest AFGnewS including  the Holiday Ideas info where could save with gifts at AFGS. Also now have a link from the home page to the AFGS French-Canadian Hall of Fame. Updated the members email page.
 
The 25th Silver Anniversary Members 5 Generation Pedigree Book is now for sale as well as a number of new AFGS publications. The new calendar is now online in the plan a visit area. Updated the special excess books list also updated members email page of surname interest and links pages. NOTE: new or updated listings have "*" next to the link. Posted the latest AFGnewS, our by monthly newsletter.

Created page for AFGS French-Canadian Hall of Fame from the 25th anniversary page. Listing who will be recognized for making significant contributions to the community. Updated the AFGS holdings page with new film listings. Created a link for an excellent article in the Sunday paper on AFGS.
 
Added Quips page (Genealogy humor)  available from Terms and phrases page,  updated JMS listing,  member e-mail, and AFGnewS. added building fund update page. 
 
You are now able to Join or renew your AFGS membership online. All membership types are available including the ability to give Gift memberships. Also added the new AFGS lapel pin to the AFGS store.
 
Major changes to the website. We now have an Online Store with the option of paying by credit card or printing out the orders and mailing them in. Also you can join or renew Individual Membership, or Individual Gift membership on line or print out the form. New pages or changes for FAQ, French English Coloring book, The Beginnings of the Franco-American Colony in Woonsocket as well as other page changes or additions. Also updated the members E-mail listing.
 
Added new page for Given name variations, Names are listed in French (most with accents) English and Latin if available. Updated and added information on the member e-mail page, links page, AFGS newsletter, and Gift page.
 
We are honored to have been chosen for a "2001-2002 Golden Web Award". given by "The International Association of Web Masters and Designers. Our site was reviewed by  IAWMD members for web site design, originality, and content.
 
Major update for the Surname Variation part of the site. Included now are the names supplied by visitors to the AFGS Variation website, names from a Drouin film, Anglicized French surnames of Maine and other parts of New England. Over 38,000 surnames names were reviewed during the selection process.
 
AFGS receives award for the website from Ancestry.com. This was posted in the latest Ancestry Digest - Ancestry Weekly Digest Brought to you by the publishers of "The Source" and "Ancestry" Magazine For the week ending 1 January 2000

Added a new section for the website called Surname Variations. It is a listing of over 34,000 Surnames. Included in the listing are all of the names from the book "French-Canadian Names: Vermont Variants"  which is produced by the Vermont Historical Society.
 
Added new page from main menu for "French Accents". It gives the key strokes to produce French accents on a PC. Also updated Member E-mail page, Used publications list, and added some new Genealogy web sites to the Genealogy Links page.
 
The AFGS web site received an Award of Excellence. Here is a quote from Ben Ciolczynski of Home & Hearth. "I would like to extend my congratulations on producing a very visually  appealing, informative and resourceful web site dedicated to the preservation of the French-American culture and your organization for all your visitors to enjoy."

Added Drouin Resources page from the main page. You can now order copies of events from the Drouin Microfilm collection.
